OH NOES, it’s yet another political broadcast from the WMCFHRMC - Wurzeltod Movement for Change (and Free Hip Replacements Made of Chocolate)
But it’s important and times are desperate. And don’t give me this “uh.. but ANY political system is corrupt per definitionem and UK elections are just a massive governmental conspiracy” bullshit to cover up your laziness/cluelessness as avant-garde nihilism.
Fact of the matter is that you have the - globally speaking rare - privilege to live in a more or less democratic (albeit 3rd most CCTVified) country where you have the RIGHT to vote and in my eyes, you therefore simply don’t have the hedonistic luxury to consider yourself “apolitical” because everything that matters in your existence has in one way or another to do with politics.
Political apathy is one of the worst kinds of stoicism as it makes you more susceptible to populism, demagoguery and infiltration.
So if you value your human rights and your (relative) freedom, take a stand, make up your own mind and support whoever you think deserves YOUR vote. The Spastic Monkey Party, the Royal Mecha-Amputees, the Trotskyist Troubadours, WHATEVER, but bear in mind that change takes time.
The English political system mainly consists of monolithic blocks and only marginal non-confirmist parties, but take a look at the continent for instance and how tiny lots of local green or youth socialist movements were 30 years ago and how much their influence has grown over the past decades. We’re still not there, obviously, and probably according to basic logic never will, but hell, things surely are better than back in the 80s.
Oh, and on a totally capitalistic note: Dave the Chimp’s Use Your Vote screen print can be bought at good olde Nelly Duff. We’ve actually put it in the window cause we’re “patronising” like that. :)

Stop whining about the AppStore

Really, it’s stupid to whine about Apples restrictive AppStore policies when you break the agreement by talking about NDA-covered details of an updated contract. You just lost your right to be on the AppStore anyway.

Get Stupid!: Fases

5 Minutes of "Green Exercise" Can Help Improve Mood (Psych Central)

psychotherapy:

A new study suggests that only five minutes of ‘green exercise’ — exercise performed in a natural setting — can improve mood and personal well-being.

Examples of a green exercise environment include exercise in a park, working in a backyard garden, or hiking on a nature trail.

Jules Pretty and Jo Barton explain in the study that green exercise is physical activity in the presence of nature.

Abundant scientific evidence shows that activity in natural areas decreases the risk of mental illness and improves the sense of well-being.

Until now, however, nobody knew how much time people had to spend in green spaces to get those and other benefits.

“For the first time in the scientific literature, we have been able to show dose-response relationships for the positive effects of nature on human mental health,” Pretty said.

From an analysis of 1,252 people (of different ages, genders and mental health status) drawn from ten existing studies in the United Kingdom, the authors were able to show that activity in the presence of nature led to mental and physical health improvements.

They analyzed activities such as walking, gardening, cycling, fishing, boating, horse-riding and farming.

The greatest health changes occurred in the young and the mentally ill, although people of all ages and social groups benefited. All natural environments were beneficial including parks in urban settings.

Green areas with water added something extra. A blue and green environment seems even better for health, Pretty noted.

From a health policy perspective, the largest positive effect on self-esteem came from a five-minute dose.

“We know from the literature that short-term mental health improvements are protective of long-term health benefits,” Pretty said.

“So we believe that there would be a large potential benefit to individuals, society and to the costs of the health service if all groups of people were to self-medicate more with green exercise,” added Barton.
